In our throw-away society, we think only to buy 'new' when a small hole appears in our socks or in the elbow of a jacket, etc. However, many years ago people repaired their clothes and socks as a normal chore of daily life.

For this they used what was commonly called a 'Darning Stool'. This enabled them to patch over the hole.

We have revived this sensible idea by crafting traditional darning stools from the recycled timber of our bee boxes. Thus some of the darning stools are of rare and exotic Australian timbers such as red cedar.
